So ... anyone read/reading his autobiography (split over several volumes)?

My interest and viewpoint ... he lived close to us when he was growing up (after arriving here from India), he went to my old secondary school and is probably my favourite humourist & writer.

If you've not tried any of his books dip your toe in the water of the Milligan humour with vol 1 of the autobiography "Adolf Hitler: My part in his downfall". Wonderful stuff. Right from page 1.

The writing is both funny and poignant. I laughed heartily in places but, in others, felt terribly sad.

I loved his books!  Remember reading them when there were the 'in' books to read in the late 60's!   NOW i'm showing my age

Me too. I read the autobiography through every few years. There's always something I missed or have forgotten. Much of it come to me fresh.

The opening page of his version of the old testament ... the creation according to the trade unions ...

Oh well. I knew he wouldn't appeal to everyone.

I assume you never liked The Goon Show, TW3, ISIRTA, Monty Python etc. either.

Fair enough. We're all different after all.

Well!! I never, ever, thought I'd see ISIRTA mentioned here!  That was THE radio programme for me.

Opening with the Angus Prune Tune, a half-hour of manic nonsense, often politically incorrect, with so many of the great names of British comedy:

Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden, Tim Brook-Taylor (pre Goodies days) John 'Otto' Cleese, Jo Kendall (she still pops up here and there) David Hatch (who ended up as Controller of Radio 2).....and produced by the great Humphrey Barclay ("who was produced by Mrs Barclay")

Sample:

(a couple discussing the poor state of their marriage):

Mary:  "Oh, John.......once we had something that was pure.........and, and, wonderful.........and good.   What happened to it?"

John: (after a pause) " You've spent it all!"
