Has anyone been to Madeira, and if so, what's it like? (toying with going there next year maybe)

Thanks.

Been there three times. Its not a place for a beach holiday as you've no doubt read. However if you like walking, eating, relaxing by pool, fantastic varied scenary then it has some plus points. It is quite sedate, although there are some livlier areas. Also quite a few posh hotels so it tends to be pricy. It can rain a lot as well.

It is quite quiet even the capital Funchal, but if you aren't looking for lager louts, and need a nice relaxing holiday, then it is ideal. The winter months can be damp and foggy, so best time really is spring or early summer.

We have just booked to go to Madeira we have never been before, this is the second holiday we have booked for this year that we have never been to before.
The first Ibiza.

We are getting very adventerous in our old age
We go in September.
Looking forward to it.
It is a bit expensive but even If it's only once It will be nice to see it.
I love nature gardening and wildlife and have been told it's just the place to see all these things.
Not that keen on beaches anymore prefer a pool and don't like it to hot.
The hotel Ocean park looks lovely 5 * very posh, until we get there

Ocean Park is gorgeous, you will love it!!!! Be careful if you hire a car the roads are very small and narrow, be sure to check out Reeds Hotel for afternoon tea!! The flowers are brilliant, be sure to take some home!! Have a lovely time!

Erm...Isn`t that a teensy weesy bit dodgy?

Cut flowers are ok (One lot) but check out this link. See page 2 and refer to `other countries` on page 2 to see what is controlled.

Crumbs Tony!!!! Just as well I hadn't read that last November when I brought a huge bunch back with me!! Ahh!!! but as I live in portugal, maybe because it is classed as an internal flight (no passport needed!)The rules probably don't apply??? (I Think!!) don't know for sure!! First time I've seen a cat on a lead on a flight too, huge tabby Moggy, had his own seat!!!!

Indeedy...but returning to the UK with controlled stuff and no import documentation carries serious charges.

It would be a shame for Doonhammer to get a life sentence with hard labour for bunch of Daffies!!

Thanks for the info.
The only thing I'm a bit puzzled about is we are booked into an apartment 1 bedroom, living area and kitchen on the internet it only mentions rooms, B&B and half board.
The pictures we have are the same and is sounds the same.

It's O.K I'Ve found it.
It's a suite with a kitchen.
