The bbc sports personality and team of year are now being decided and this is what i've found out.

Quote:
A panel of experts has now whittled the nominations for BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year to three contenders.

They are: Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team; Sussex County Cricket Club, who did the County Championship and C&G Trophy double; and St Helens, winner of all three of rugby league's domestic titles.

For the first time, the award winner is being decided by the listeners of BBC Radio Five Live, with a vote taking place over this weekend from Friday. Full details to follow.

It's about time Rugby Leage was taken serious, would be really nice if we could win. But i've a good idea that it will be the Ryder cup team.

But come on mates please all vote for ST HELENS

Not as good as Saints were.

We finished top of the league

we won all 3 trophys

We had man of steel

we had young player of the year.

how's that for achievement.

Thats all very impressive Chris, but the Ryder cup is much more popular. Sussex were good too, that why they have been nominated, but there can only be one winner & that will be the Golfers.

Thanks

How brilliant was that. Watched it in the club was well chuffed, also made up when Anderson got coach of the year.

To be honest thought that the ryder cup team would get it.

But i'm made up.

Saints - Winners not Sinners
Super League | St Helens
by Phil G - BBC Sport 18 December 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s the debate that refuses to die. Well, it’s not really a debate, more a rant by those people upset and a little bitter – okay, very bitter - that St Helens were named Team of the Year by BBC Sport.

One journalist has highlighted “sinister” voting patterns – will someone please explain to me how that particular phenomenon works – while others have been left open-mouthed by the failure of Europe’s Ryder Cup team to land the coveted* award.

Well, if you think that three days of work in the scenic and luxurious surroundings of the K Club near Dublin merits higher praise than nine months of hard graft by players who put their bodies on the line week after week, then you may have a point.

As for the same tired, old prejudices that continually crop up whenever rugby league enjoys some welcome and deserved publicity, well, I really cannot be bothered to address them here.

For me, Saints fully merit their title as the top team in British sport.

Why?

They were the very best at what they did and won every competition they entered;

They lost just four times all year, never by more than four points, and rarely fell below the high standards set by coach Daniel Anderson;

They were exciting to watch, mixing brutal defence with a ruthless attacking efficiency;

They were professional to a ‘tee’;

And they really did base their success on a team ethic, although their overwhelming dominance ensured they swept the board when it came to individual honours, too.

I could go on but I won’t. It is just a shame there are so many people who feel wronged by the public’s decision – yes, in case you have forgotten, the vote was indeed a public one – to hand Saints the title of Team of the Year.

Even the rugby union fraternity have taken time to write to or in the national press registering their dismay at the outcome and their clear dislike of the 13-man code.

Why? Who knows? Well, I do know, but, like I said, who wants to hear the same old prejudices get another airing.

I like union and I like golf. In fact, I like most sports. But I recognise brilliance when I see it – and Saints were brilliant in 2006.

* If it wasn’t coveted, they why the big debate?
