My mum bought over the book about Sarah Payne, I haven't summoned up the courage to read it yet.

It was weird. As I was reading it, I was hoping the girls would be found alive even though I knew they wouldn't be

I read it last year, I remember a topic running on HT about it. The introduction made me cry as did a lot of the rest of it, but I was glad I had read it, very interesting insight.

However I felt sorry for their son who seemed to me to be sort of totally sidelined and isolated - anyone else think that?

yes I did think that guest but they did try they're best to include him...it must be a terrible decision as parents on which way to treat a 12/13 year old in a horrible situation

yup, true welshoney, I sippose I was being a bit judgemental really.....you just cant imagine being in the position they were in. I did like the dad better after having read the book than I had before...whioch sounds ridiculous as I had only ever seen little clips of him on tv.
