This weeks new albums ........At least those I got hold of in the past three or four days:
Nada Surf: Lucky
Cute, bright little pop/rock songs from this New York band (in fact they sound more like a typical California band). Very infectious and I really recommend it (9/10)
Cat Power: Jukebox
A delicate, diverse little collection of reworked covers (songs from Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, James Brown, etc). She's a very restrained and elegant singer on this album (unlike her reputation!). Great quiet listen for the morning train journey (8/10)
The Helio Sequence: Keep your eyes ahead
I like this one, I think. It's pretty lightweight pop/rock which hints at greatness but never quite gets there. I'm thinking it suffers by comparison to Nada Surf .... that's the truth of it (7/10)
Lenny Kravitz: It's time for a love revolution
He clearly has talent, which makes it annoying that he doesn't use it and instead comes with an album with a sound exactly like his previous stuff. It's old-fashioned (if you were polite you'd say retro) and unmoving (3/10)
