i would say deffo yes to the mozzie thing - i have never been bitten as much as in Cyprus - but it was the north!!!

I'd say yes to the insect repellant as mozzies can be a nuisance there, especially if you're susceptible!
The money thing - best rate you get is to take sterling with you and change into CYP£ when you're there.
Can''t help with the rest I'm afraid as I've only been to Paphos for a day before! Usually went to the South or East......sorry.
I'm envious of you going though!

Right Dottie.......... 1...... Insect repellent needed?..... If you are usually bitten, even at home, then yes.... me and hubby have never had a problem, but his mum ALWAYS gets bitten over here, and she did when we went to Cyprus..... ...2... I would personally take sterling to change into Cypriot money.... otherwise you will have to pay to change from Travs Cheques to Cypriot money...... 3...... How much money? Well as a family of four, we usually based ourselves on £100 per day.... and includes activities, etc...... always seemed to be OK...... 4........ Hiring a car........ 5........ eating out? .. sorry, not been to Paphos so cant advise......... I do know that last year hubby hired an open top jeep for 2 days and it was £58....... or a Scooter for a week for £34....... ....... ...... hope thats the right order....... and I was thinking earlier on today......... this time last year.......... we had JUST got to Protaras.... the EXACT date........ to start our holiday......... ......... ......... wish I was back there again.......

one minor thing they use the same plugs as us. So no need for those silly plugs they use throughout europe.

If your hiring a car and thinking of going up Troodos mountains might be worth getting one with slightly bigger engine size especially if you are going to use the air/con. The small engined car we had really struggled.
If your property is air/con then you should not have too much bother with mozzies in the night, just need repellent when out and about. If you have a fan in the room this can prevent the little blighters from taking to the air.
And Cyprus is very hot (too hot for my liking in summer) so slap on the extra suncream.

OOhhh forgot to say that Dottie... you MUST go to the Troodos Mountains.... there are a couple of waterfalls you must stop and see...... Trimikini is lovely.... theres a "private" garden where you can pay to go in (only about £2 entry)....... it slopes gently down, with Hens, chickens etc roaming around free.... right at the bottom is a waterfall..... must advise you though, its absolutely FREEZING!!! .. some of the views are breathtaking....

Medot I've just remembered from our visit to Paphos that we ate in a restaurant in the harbour called the Moorings. When we got back I was talking with Helen, and it was one of her favourites too, so that might be nice to go to
She also recommended the Phivos, which is further along, going away from the harbour.
Hope that helps some.

dotie here are some answers
1 yes you need plug in thingies, we used them and the good old Avon spray and only got bitten once.
2.We took cyprus money and sterling travelers cheques rates seemed similar in most places.
3. Money depends we went all inclusive but looking around it did seem expensive
4.not sure about the car hire as we didn't.
5. Eating out we went to Fat Mammas and had a fab meal and a good laugh.
another few points plugs are the same as ours , toilet paper can't be put down the loos. the buses are great and cheap. always agree on a price before you get into a taxi.
anything I can help with let me know.

good point ther Welshoney..... we always agree to a price before we get in the Taxi... that way, they cant change their minds afterwards.......

We haggled and got a price nearly the same as the bus fare.

are you expected to tip everyone??
and do you have to haggle for everything??
whats the duty free shop like at the airport....and do you know how much drink i can take back??
|
welshoney
|
No you don't feel pushed to tip like most places.
Haggling is part of the hols isn't it????
We found the duty free shop in the airport well stocked and quite reasonable.
Not sure about the allowance on booze but leaflets stating your allowance in the duty free shop

right ..with regards to the haggling...when you go into shops everything IS priced isn't it....we've spent the last three years in sharm where you HAVE to haggle for everything and NOTHING is priced..there is no such thing as window shopping there....and i'd like to spend a little time loooking without feeling under pressure to buy!!
roughly how much does a meal out cost...really just a main meal plus drink. we are going B&B..so this will help me decide how much money to take.
can you drink the water...or is bottled water a must.
is it one of these places that are overrun with stray dogs??..i can cope with cats but i'm a bit warey of stray dogs.
how bad are the timeshare touts....i've now read on another forum that they can be a bit of a pest.

Hi dottie
hope this answers some of your questions.
The stuff in the shop is priced but in the market we haggled to get better prices,
We had a three course meal and drinks in Fat Mammas where the portions are huge and it came to about £55 for the 3 of us, there are a lot of places to eat on that strip or in Paphos harbour , We only eat out the once cos we were AI, hopefully someone will be able to help you on that one.
Stray dogs didn't see any... saw a few cats.
They say you can drink the water but avoid if you have a sensitive tummy, So we drank bottled water.
Although I must say this year I cleaned my teeth using the water and had no adverse reaction (normally use bottled water for this)
Only saw one tout and he was a bit pushy, but told him no and just walked away, if you stop for them they think you are an easy target I've always found.
any thing else don't hestitat to ask.
