PLUMS

Hi does anyone know if it is possible to ripen green plums in doors ? Our plum tree is laden with fruit this year so much so a big branch has broken off. I have taken the plums off and there are 100's of them, they are a good size but still green as they ripen late up here in Scotland. I would hate to see them go to waste, any ideas please

thank you Channel H I am going to try that, it would be such a shame to lose them even though I have 1000's on the tree. Every year we take fruit round to the cottages near us they will get loads this year as the apples and pears have gone mad as well

You can usually make chutney from unripened fruit although I've usually used plums for jam in the past. As they might not be very sweet perhaps you could combine them with another fruit for jam.

I think I'd try cooking a few with sugar to see how they taste, its better than wasting them.

Next year you might have to remove some of the fruit early to prevent damage to the tree, I seem to remember that's what my ex used to do.

after a very good year of plummage, the last 2 ive had very few
i googled pruning it and find ive pruned it at the wrong time, and by doing this ive infected it with a disease, the leaves are black and eaten and ive got 5 good plums on,
ive pruned it right back now,, so see what happens next year

thank you all for your tips, the plums that I had to take of the broken branch all rippened and tasted lovely, I used a banana and it worked well.
Just been in the garden picking runner beans its been a good year for them up here, in fact its been a bumper harvest for all the fruit and veg, we have taken loads of fruit round to the cottages near us to save wasting it.
