Our holiday in NerjaHad a lovely week in Nerja at the Plaza Cavana Hotel. Hotel is in the middle of the resort not far from the Balcon de Europa (we counted 21 cats one evening on the Balcon) The hotel was lovely, very clean with comfortable beds and the staff were very friendly and spoke good English. There were lots of places to eat so going B&B would not be a problem. Went by local bus to the Caves which were amazing. Did a day trip to Granada, which was very busy and visited the Alhambra which was tranquil. Heard somebody complaining that when they last visited there were many more rooms to see. Unfortunately it was the wrong time of year for the gardens as they were empty of flowers, you just had to use your imagination. On Thursday it was a bank holiday, Andalucian Day so we thought we would hang around the resort. A red carpet was laid out in front of the town hall and the local band played for a short while, the local mayor 'spoke' and hundreds of people on bikes in yellow t-shirts rode 3 kms around the town and that was it!
Unfortunately on Thursday night our peace was shattered, a British family moved into the hotel in the room opposite us. A large family occupying three rooms with TEENAGERS who went out that evening and got well and truly drunk, came back to the hotel about 3.30 am and woke everybody up. We went off to Granada and came back to find out that they had been kicked out of the hotel because they were all drunk and causing mayhem. Apparently most of the water from the roof top pool ended up inside the hotel.
We mostly enjoyed our stay and the hotel could not be faulted but would go B&B next time as there was limited choice on the half board menu (but beautifully cooked.)

Sounds like you had a good time except for the lager louts
What was the weather like?
We're going half board to Majorca in August but we very rarely use it.We prefer to eat out.Might give the breakfast a try.

The weather started off a bit overcast but the sun came out after that. Evenings were a bit chilly but certainly better than at home.
Does anybody want to start a hotel chain with me. All hotel room doors would be slam proof and floors would be quiet. Perhaps rooms could be sound proofed. I do love my sleep.

Went to Nerja on a day trip when we stopped in Benamedena, lovely place, was told by the tour guide that the church there was the one used in Coronation Street, when Alex Gilroy followed Bet Lynch to Spain and proposed to her...a piece of useless information for all you long standing Corrie fans.
Did you have a ride on the Donkey taxis Carol?

Seems so simple doesn't it? I have grown to hate hotels for the lack of noise control and inconsiderate neighbours. Blaring TV's, slamming doors, stomping about upstairs, drives me mad.

I've only just seen this carol, as I wasn't around at the beginning of March....and just spotted the update......
Glad you had a good time (mostly)
well done to the hotel for evicting the noisy family
re a new hotel chain, I guess it would need better soundproofed floors and walls.....some hotels we've been in, you can;t hear anything...must depend on the construction?
and ?carpets in the corridors, (which they don't tend to have in Spain)
Don't know what to say about slamproof doors....basically a good idea.
but then I'd want ot know if an intruder was coming in
TVs could have volume limiters?? after all, the entertainments aren't allowed to be above a certain decibel level...
personally I'm not bothered about having a TV on holiday....got better things to do
and considerate neighbours????now here's a contentious thought....does it make any difference if prices are higher (due to the thick walls and carpets ) would that stop the noisy ones? hmmmmmm........

I have been to Nerja twice and I love it, the last time was when the world cup was on and it was great to see all the nationalities parading round the streets in their kits for each match, everyone was very friendly.
we stayed in a town house on calle carabeo just to the other side of the balcon from the church.
a view of the town square (with Bet Lynch's church) from our favourite cafe bar

They served really great coffee in that bar, you could almost stand your spoon up in it. One meal that still stands out in my mind is the 4 cheese tagliatelle I had in the restaurant outside the Cavana hotel yummy.
