With flybe now doing cheap flights from Belfast to Exeter, I fancy a week in that part of the world for a change.

Would like to know what self catering cottages are like around the area. We'd like something near the coast, not tooooooooo far to drive from exeter . Anyone any any ideas? I don't know that part of England at all, so be grateful for any suggestions Smile

Thanks

trish,

Do you want somewhere quet, lively, a place for adults and children alike?

I live in Torbay and depending on where you want to go and what you want to do, can also have a bearing on where you would like to stay?

Hi Debbie

Ideally we'd be after somewhere not too far from a beach, with plenty to see and do for the boys, ages 12 and 8. We'll hire a car so that we can drive out and see other places. So really somewhere that's quite lively, near the sea, and with nice wee villages & scenery to visit, around it. Oh and a nice cottage, though we might consider a caravan if the standard was good. I hate caravans normally but there seems to be a lot around the coastal areas. Am I asking too much?

Looking at those links guest gave me, it looks beautiful.

Any info you have would be great, debbie.

Thanks Smile

trish,

Well I live in Paignton and it is very central for most things. Not to noisy (well most of the time anyway) Wink Torquay is the more busier noisier of the two. Brixham is a lovely place, but not to live, and I could not holiday there as I find it too quiet, but okay to visit Laughing

There are plenty of places to visit. Teignmlouth-lovely place. You have the moors, Dartmouth again a lovely place. You can take a ferry from this side of the water over to Dartmouth, it is only five mins, and again it is a lovely place, if a little expensive! Very Happy

Paignton has some lovely beaches. Preston Beach, Goodrington. My girls are ten and eleven and are never short of anything to do.

Debbie

Thanks so much for that info, I realllllllllllly wanna go now, its sounds exactly the kind of thing we're looking for Very Happy

How far of a drive is it from Exeter airport to Paignton? Or do you think we should base ourselves in Torquay? Is there much distance between the two?

Thanks again for your help, it's great to have info from someone who knows the area so well Smile

trish,

Depending really on traffic Exeter to Paignton is approx 35 mins. From Paignton to Torquay is 5 to 10 mins along the sea front.

Paignton is in the middle of Brixham, Paignton, Goodrington, and is a good base as well to stay.

If your children do want something a little more livlier Wink then Torquay may be the better bet.

Good luck.
