Just finished reading the Davinci Code by Dan Brown, thought it was a bit slow to start but turned out to be a good book (well my type anyway), just started Angels and demons by him now.
I've started to collect some old ones ready for my hoildays in January, you may know some of them: 3rd Degree by James patterson, Disordered Minds by Minette Walters, The Memory Game by Nicci French and Kisscut by Karin Slaughter, should help pass the time while I'm soaking up the rays.

Notes from a Big Country, perhaps guest?
As for me I'm reading "The Last Runes of the Earth" the sequel - after 20-odd years - to the two trilogys of stories about Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever, by Stephen Donaldson.
Very much an acquired taste, and you have to have read the first 6 books to follow this one!
(Actually, to be wholly accurate I'm mostly reading "The Certificate in Regulated General Insurance Handbook" as I want to try to get the exam out of the way before Christmas, but that's not recommended foot up with a glass of plonk and the tin of Quality Street reading!!)

guest, I just read Jodi Picaults one about the designer sister, canīt remember the name of it. What other ones has she written and are they as good? Just finished reading Sheila Hancocks book which I really enjoyed.

ooh madsue i leant them to my mate...i read the designer sister one, the other one I think was called The Pact....yes it was, about teenage sweethearts....very good. I have my eye on another on Tesco by her but i cannot remember the name will tell u when I buy it very soon!

She has written loads, read "The Pact" a little while ago, enjoyed that. Have another one called "Plain Truth" haven't read that yet and she also has a new one out, think it is called "Salem"
The one you have read was called "My Sister's Keeper". Remember reading that on holiday and bought tears to my eyes at the end.

Thanks guest, you sound like me!! I have to be reading, and have been known to have three books on the go at a time. Think that's probably why I donīt remember the titles!!!

Thanks to you too sandyglen!! I do tend to do that, find an author I like and then read the lot. Trouble is, I then forget which ones I have already read and get them again!!!!! I blame the covers.........they all look the same donīt they! Penny Vicenzi (is that the right name?), et al, just seem to change the hat, or the womans face, for each successive book!

I`m in the middle of "Twisted" by Jonathan Kellerman, would recommend anything by him, also anything by Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, and James Patterson. Although I read loads of chicklit rubbish, I love travel books and have read all Bill Bryson, and most of the ones written by people who go live in other countries. I have read Boy called It etc, joolz, but not yet felt able to read Goodbye Dearest Holly, as we were staying in the house next door when it all happened so it is too close I will have a look for some of the others you recommend, as I am fascinated by forensics, and would have loved to have been clever enough to have trained in something like that.

madsue,
The Holly book is brilliant - I understand why you havent read it but its a fathers story - it doesnt focus on the crime itself too much - its more of how it affected him and his family and living with the police in their house everyday and the media. Very interesting.
I too wish I had been clever enough to go into Forensics - Im a fan of Discover Channel and CSI - its so clever how they can catch someone with the smallest of evidence.

Well, I haven`t spent all of my book tokens yet, but I`ve made a damn good start. I`ve got 3 biographies, "Just a Boy" by Richard McCann, the son of the Yorkshire Ripper`s first victim, "Too Many Mothers" by Roberta Taylor from The Bill, and "Behind Closed Doors" by Martine McCutcheon`s mum Jenny Tomlin. I also got the one remaining book by Dan Brown that I haven`t read, "Deception Point", "London Bridges" by James Patterson, "Straight into Darkness" by Faye Kellerman, "Private Eyes" by Jonathan Kellerman, and finally, "The Various Haunts of Men" by Susan Hill, an author I haven`t tried before, anyone else read anything of hers? I`ve just got to get the festivities over and done with now, then I can get down to some reading!

Just finished "the Lincoln Lawyer" by Michael Connelly. Really enjoyed it and it is a move away from his Harry Bosch character. This one is about a guy called Micky Haller who is a defence lawyer and usually acts for low lifes, druggies etc. and lands a big case which will earn him a lot of money, but all is not as it seems.
If you are a Michael Connelly fan, I think you will enjoy it.

I agree I think Kathy tends to get bogged down in the detail too much at times. I remember when Deja Dead came out I had to read some chapters two or three times to understand what she was going on about with regards to saw tooth marks in bones.

I'm on the second book of the second series (first one had about 5 in the series) of Colonisation by Harry Turtledove.
He's an alternate history author and in this series lizard type creatures have arrived at Earth to colonise it. They believed we still were technologically fixed in the middle ages but after a 600 year journey they arrive towards the end of the 2nd world war and find we've developed the A-Bomb.
They don't quite manage a full colonisation but are left with the USA, USSR and Germany as potential enemies, Britain's empire has gone, the French are history (great eh!) ....... you get the idea.
Wonderful stuff.
