Whats your favourite resort in Majorca?

Been to Cala D'or twice,Cala Bona,Palma Nova twice and Santa Ponsa.
Visited Porto Cristo,Soller,Son Servera,Felantrix and Port Colom.
I liked Cala D'or followed by Cala Bona about the best.
waterford

Well I have been to Santa Ponsa and loved it but I wouldnt dream of going there if you werent Irish.

I am off the Alcudia in July so I will let you know which one I prefer.
Fenderman

Hello Waterford,I liked Santa Ponsa but found it to be a small resort.Didn't mind the Irish part especially the bare knuckle fights
We stayed on the other side in the Playas Del Rey which was a nice little hotel which did bed and breakfast.booked through Thomson Small And Friendly. It was quite a walk to the Square.Helped to work off the Bacardi. .
It's a nice resort but after a couple of days being dragged round the same shops, going in the same bars,we got taxis into Palma Nova and Magaluf.
We also went into Palma and got the train to Soller one day.We ended up getting a taxi back from Soller because it was shut in the afternoon and didn't fancy waiting til 7pm for the return on the train.Cost a few quid that day Also went to Marineland.
This year we're in Palma Nova. Its a little bit more lively.
waterford

Fenderman, have you ever been to Alcudia.
Fenderman

Hi again,
No,never been to Alcudia.I think it's more for families with kiddies.
Just me and Deb go nowadays usually followed by some friends and family who always seem come along at the last minute.
It looks good and also Pollencia and Can Picafort are close by.
The only trouble with Alcudia and the East coast resorts is the transfer times. It can take upto 90 minutes on coach transfer.
Have a great time and please post a review.I'm going to do one for the Tobago in Palma Nova.We go first week in August for two weeks
THE THIEF OF BAD GAGS

Been to Alcudia twice and loved every minute of both hols , both times it was a lads holiday but as its a family resort we were treated brilliantly by all families we meet

my parents stayed in cala d'or but preferred alcudia when they went there and also stayed in Magaluf and hated it
Fenderman

Hi TOBG,
Alcudia looks good.I just like the short flight, short transfer, get into the hotel, find a bar where City will be on.Last year in Santa ponsa against Birmingham and a win This year the season starts as we get back but the World Cup will be on.Good memories of Cala dor.I was there when England Beat Germany 5-1.Bloody magic
THE THIEF OF BAD GAGS

both times i have been have been private apt rentals so used taxis , ok expensive but get there a lot quicker , i am away fro the world cup , unfortunately in the air for one england group match but will be away for the next rd , hoping we qualify , if not as my BIL is Swedish and i know the ex national team captain i suppose i better cheer them on if they qualify and we dont
Silverpixie (Admin)

Loved Pollencia, visited Alcudia a couple of times for the market which was great but didn't think much of Palma Nova. Absolutely wouldn't go to Magaluf it was full of loud mouth drunks after the very cheap beer and most were Brits Formentor was really beautiful and the trip there up the mountain and back down had the some of the best scenery ever, it bought tears to my eyes it was that spectacular, quite a hair raising trip on the bus though
Fenderman

Hi Lynn,
Pollencia and Alcudia seem to get very good reviews. Is it very quiet or more expensive than Palma Nova/Magaluf.
We like some entertainment at night but not the dreaded Krapeoke.
Cala D'or has some good entertainment on in the Tropical Gardens and There was a very good band on in a bar in the centre near Linekers.
Anything like that in Pollencia or Alcudia?
Anybody got any info please post, looking for somewhere new for next year.Got to put up with Palma Nova this year
waterford

Does it have to be in Majorca Fenderman
THE THIEF OF BAD GAGS

there is quite a lot in Alcudia mate , Linekers is definitely there and there is entertainment all over , really for it to occupy 4 20+ lads for a week who like a drink but not to the extent we embarass our country and who like a laugh it was perfect , i am going back next year as the beach will be great for my little lad and as my partner has also been there before she knows how family orintated it is , BUT as i said there are lots of places for couples and groups , a lot of thehotels have entertainment and we ended up spending all day watching the golf in a brilliant bar , which then had the normal quiz/bingo and a group on later 9only prob i had still got my prescription shades on and couldnt see a thing at 11 in the night ) as for expense i would say its cheaper IMHO than the resorts which cater for younger clientele , also i do know the Belle Vue complex there has a very good entertainment , well it did and you dont have to stay there to see it
Fenderman

Hi Waterford,
No,it doesn't have to be Majorca,I just like short flights Too impatient to start partying
We've been to Lanzarote,Gran Canaria(awful)America and Ibiza.Never tried mainland Spain,Don't fancy Sharm,Turkey. We have friends in Cyprus in Pathos who keep asking us to go over but again I'm not keen.Don't know why
Going to Dublin in June to see my daughter.Thats always a good trip.
Not warm enough for the big holiday, same weather as Manchester
waterford

Our two best holidays have been Mojacar and last year we went to the Algarve and loved it.

I actually think the weather is worse in Manchester, went in July about 3 years ago and we needed two fine days to do Old Trafford and Alton Towers and it poured the whole time and the traffic coming back in Birmingham from Alton Towers was cruel.
Fenderman

Thanks for that TOBG,
It sounds great.I'll start my research, give me something to to before City v Villa tonight 2-1 to City
THE THIEF OF BAD GAGS

Old Trfford is in SALFORD and Alton Towers in Staffordshire so it couldnt have been Manchester RAIN lol but the trip on the m6 back from Birmingham tell me about it i live not far from Junc 19 on the M6 and yestreday town was chocka as there was accident and they all come off and go throu Knutsford

i reckin Fender it willbe a easy 3-0 win and we will beat West HAM IN the QUARTERS AND THEN I START GETTING A NOSEBLEED lol
Fenderman

Hi Waterford,
I talk to my daughter at least once a week and the weather there always seems to be like ours or they get it later the same day
I'm looking forward to June, seeing my granddaughter Jessica who's 1 on St,Patricks Day.weather should be ok then.going for four days.
On Ryanair,Cheap flights Last time there was the last week in January,
Bloody freezing and it rained all the time.
Fenderman

TOBG just as long as they don't play like they did against Sunderland and Portsmouth
Always get a headache and funny stomach when City are on.After 30 odd years you think we'd be used to it.
Just to keep on topic,I wonder if any City players go to Majorca?
waterford

Welll it is supposed to be freezing again for St. Paddy's day. Enjoy your trip either way
Fenderman

Thanks,
The drink helps
Scarlett

oooh Ive just noticed your posts on here, Majorca is my favourite destination!

Have been to Alcudia 5 times, Cala Dor twice, Palma Nova once, Peurto Pollensa once, Can Pastilla once!

My favourite was Can Pastilla, as I think I only heard one other British person there, it was really like being in a foreign country, unlike Palma Nova, where I didnt hear a Spanish voice!

Looooove Alcudia too though!
Tango Bunny

Hi
I've stayed in Palma Nova,Magaluf,Torrenova,Calla Dor and Sa Coma
I prefer Majaluf ....well I like to be in the thick of things
Fenderman

Hi guest and Tango,
Cala Bona was pretty good. It's a nice walk down the promenade to Cala Millor and on to Sa Coma. Not too far to the Caves Of Drach in Porto Cristo. We stayed in the Sur Hotel opposite the Levante. It was cheap and cheerful and the staff in the bar were great.Tony,Hector and Rual were really friendly.Tony was the daytime barman and played guitar in a duo who played at the Sur on Sunday nights.Very good too.
We would definitely go back there.
Palma Nova can be lively and its easy to get into Magaluf.I like the beachs
At Palma Nova and Magaluf.Short trip to Palma and other attractions and short transfers.
Magaluf can be a bit mad.Went in Goodfellows(HT) bar a couple of times but he wasn't there Hope you all have a good holiday wherever you go
Scarlett

Hi Fenderman

I went into Goodfellows too, and left a note for Adam as he wasnt there..............he put a post on the Majorca forum of HT!!!

Thanks for that info, Ive never tried that particular area, although weve driven through it on the way to the Caves and to the aquarium in Porto Cristo, it was very good!!! We stopped off for lunch in Sa Coma

But I could be tempted to try it next year
Fenderman

Hi guest,

Cala Bona has a really nice little harbour with some good restaurants.
The walk to Cala Millor along the prom we did twice a day because we had friends who were staying at the Atalaya apartments in Cala Millor.
There's a lot of bars on the way so it took a long time to get there
The beach at Cala Bona Is small. Its a much better beach at Cala Millor.
There's Plenty of entertainment around and loads of shops in CM.
Its a 25minute stroll between the two resorts.
Only downside was avoiding the kamikaze bikers on the four seater cycles
It is good that the three resorts are close together. At least you're not stuck in one place all the time and it gives you plenty of options. We will go back again when she's saved up
BIGRED

Its Magaluff / Palmanova for me. AS they are linked you must have a 3 to 4 mile stretch of fun. The centre of Magaluff may best be avoided high season unless you are Young and wild. I,m just 46 and wild

Just seen this thread.

We are planning to go on holiday in July with friends of our and all our kids.
Favoured place at the moment is Majorca (none of us have been before).

Moreen have a look at the above site. There are some reviews of the apartments you are thinking about. They seem very good.

Never been to Alcudia but we are going to Lagotel in Playa De Muro in July. I think it is a bit out of the hive of Alcudia but I know there is a regular bus service into the town and port area for about 1euro each way.

Hope this helps I know I am starting to get really excited.
shorty

I have been to a few places in Majorca and my favourite is definitely Cala D'Or - lovely beaches, love the town square where all the nightlife is, beautiful marina.
GoldenChippie

been to Palma nova/magaluf last year with my teenagers to keep them happy - all i can say is..................OMG

we had a right laugh but..................blackpool in the sun it is, if your idea of a good holiday is Elvis impersonators, menus with pictures and all day Full English with Heinz beans then youre laughing

I met Adam at Goodfellows - didnt even give us a free drink!!

Also been to Alcudia years ago - not my thing either

but when we travelled around a bit i could see there were some lovely places there. Palma was fab.
mike9876

Sa Coma is my favorite but after visiting the 4 times I won't be going back for a while. A small compact resort, not the best restuarants, no disco or night clubs, but 2 british bars that spoil the place. Cala Millor 1000 meters in one direction and s'ilott 800 meters in the other direction. A wonderful sandy beach and gently shelving sea.

My least favorite is magaluf and palma nova, I went to magaluf in 1987 and loved the place, it had many shops and restuarants run by majorca people then but now they have all been forced out and the place has grown into a resort that has no charm or character.

I didn't like alcudia, but liked can pastilla as well as peurto pollensa, cala millor has grown too big now. Now porto cristo where the caves of drach are really doesn't have anything there but the caves. The beach area isn't all that nice either.
sunbear

Only been to Cala D'or...hotel was a dump but the resort was nice enough. (Prefer my resorts quieter and without too much British influence). Used to go to Es Trenc for a bit of beaching. Found Majorca a beautiful island, strangely quieter and old fashioned in the bits we visited then Menorca which is the only other Balaeric usland we have visited.
pedpolly

We have visited Majorca about a dozen times and always hire a car and cover most of the island during our stays. The first couple of years we did Magaluf but now prefer the Alcudia region . A trip to Sa Colabra is a must but not for the faint hearted , nice hairpin bends
bettyboop

Been to C'an Picafort (19yr ago), Alcudia for the day, Sa Coma, Palma Nova and Magaluf. I like Palma Nova because it's a short bus ride from airport. Going back in May
sunbear

Only been to Cala d'or which was nice but the hotel was lousy...although on half board we eat out all the time (inc. breakfasts) as the food was so bad. At least it meant we got a hire car and got to see a lot of the island which is beautiful away from the tourist areas.
Geddy

We went to Palma Nova last month & loved it.
Fenderman

Hi Geddy,
Went to Palma Nova/Torrenova in August. We stayed at the Tobago which was fine.We were a bit too close to Magaluf though.Had some great meals in Some great restaurants.Other things went wrong, see holiday from hell thread in general chat.
We will probably go back to Majorca next summer.Thinking of trying Cala Bona. We've been there once and really enjoyed it.Also thinking of trying Tenerife.
Acorncup

We generally go to Puerto Pollensa or Alcudia...but have been thinking about Cala Bona for next year.

What did you like about it, Fenderman?
Fenderman

Hi Acorn,
Cala Bona is really nice resort, not too lively. There some lovely restaurants
Around the harbour and on the sea front. They were all very reasonably priced.
I believe that they have pedestrianised the road from the harbour to the promenade. The road ran between the Levante and the Levante Park hotels which are thomson gold hotels.
It's a good leisurely walk down the promenade along the sea front.there is plenty of bars and shops to look in.It takes about 25 minutes to walk into Cala Millor.
There is absolutely loads of shops and restaurants in Cala Millor and you can play dodge the German
If you carry on walking for another ten minutes or so,you come into Sa Coma.
Transfer is about an hour on a package or 45 minutes by taxi.
we both loved Cala Bona and we are going back next summer, all being well.
Regards Fenderman
Acorncup

Thanks fenderman Where do you stay?
We've been going to Thomson Gold for a few years as our son was working for them....but I'm not sure if we would, if we weren't visiting his hotel (if you see what I mean....). He always said the Levante was good.
Fenderman

Hi Acorn,
We went to Cala Bona in 2003 and stayed at the Hotel Sur,which was cheap and cheerful. No aircon except in the restaurant.Food was ok but mostly we ate out.We usually go half board because its cheaper for couples,no supplements. This year we went DIY and booked the hotel through Alpha rooms. It gives you a lot more choice. The year we went to Cala Bona was the hottest for a 100 years and we had two fans running continuously for two weeks. The Levante and Levante park are very close, just down the street. They are really nice hotels. Also the Cala Bona Hotel looks good with most rooms overlooking the harbour. The Bonaire also gets good reviews. There is a lot of hotel reviews in HT including one on the Sur from me.
The more I talk about it,the more appealing it seems .
Once I recover from the op and sort out the taxman,I'll be looking to book it unless they bankrupt me
regards Keith(Fenderman)
Acorncup

Thanks fenderman

I will look out those reviews.

There's something about having a holiday booked to look forward to isn't there?

You'll definitely deserve one after your convalescence

Well which one did you prefer Waterford?

I am looking for info on a family hols, 2 adults 2 kids.

We love Marjoca, have been to Magaluff six times and no its not full of noisy brits if you go in May like we do, also stopped in Palma Nova and in Portals Nous. I think Alucudia is more for families, Keith and I tend to go on our own as a couple and love the night life.
GoldenChippie

we went to Magaluff in April and it was completely full of noisy brits!!!!

I thought the east coast had some very pretty bays

Alcudia was still a bit too full on for me im afraid - it all depends how you like your holidays
Guest1

Callas de Mallorca...where i nearly got killed.
Chelseagirl

Well this holiday is for the kids, they come first.
So I will be happy with sun, sea and a decent pool

I am not into the full on Brit Chav Crowd at all.

I like decent food, can't fill my kids up on Burgers, saying that my four year old don't eat them, but son is Burger boy if I let him

I would like

1) somewhere near the beach.
2) not far from shops etc....
3) pool/water park
4) Kids activities etc...
5) decent S/C apartments
Liz0

My family liked Santa Ponsa the best in Majorca. Beautiful beach, loads of bars and the square is excellent for families. Entertainment at the square every night. The Pirate Show in Magaluf is great and only about 10 minutes in a taxi from Santa Ponsa.

Magaluf is ok depending on the time of year you go. Been to Magaluf in October which was pretty quiet but had rubbish weather.

Alcudia as a resort just wasn't for me but the holiday wasn't too bad as we had a really good AI hotel. IWe though it was a lot more expensive than the resorts at the south of the island.
Chelseagirl

My first holiday abroad was at Santa Ponsa in 1974 it was fab!!!

Why didn't you like Alcudia Liz? I have never been, but i know how fussy my hubby is, so I want to take the family to a decent place.

My son went to the Pirate show, and he loved it.
Liz0

We thought Alcudia was a nice place but there were millions of flies everywhere. That might just have been at the area we stayed as we were at a lake. We didn't think there was as much entertainment as other resorts we had been to. Our hotel was the Lagomonte which was a great hotel.

Other people in my family who have been and loved Alcudia
