my holiday to LANZAROTEwell just come back after spending two of the most fantastic weeks in lanzarote.
we opted for a villa holiday....thanks to madsue for persuading me there...and i have to say it was the icing on top of the holiday.
the villa was in the small town of Tias...it had three bedrooms...an 8m heated pool, wasn't overlooked...which meant hubby erm could do a bit of nudie sunbathing...and had great views down to the sea.
we spent our time touring around and then coming back to the villa to relax.
the weather was just lovely...i must admit i probably would have liked it a tad bit cooler as we like to go for walks...but i did want to come back with a tan...which i have...not all over...but nearly!!
i was a bit worried that there wouldn't be enough for us to do for two weeks but we found we couldn't fit everything in!!
i never snorkeled....no time....i didn't even sunbathe on the beach....no point when we had the pool. didn't go to "la santa" or take the ferry to fuerteventura...didn't have time to go to arrecife...or go walking round the volcanos...well we didn't do that because i couldn't work out where the paths were...but i WILL do that when we go back...because we will go back.
as this was our first visit, we really didn't know just what to expect, so decided to go to all the touristy places. we were lucky that included in our villa price was car hire for the full two weeks....i do think that helped as well....it seemed very expensive to go on the reps excursions...and cost very little to get in getting there yourself.
we did the timanfaya mountains twice....awesome both times....and at only 8euros each thought it well worth the entry fee.
we went across to "el golfo"....omg that was brilliant...looked at the green lake from the cliffs and close up.
went to "los hervideros"...that would have been better if the coach party hadn't turned up just as we did!!!
went to the "cacti garden"....pmsl...omg....that was brilliant too....cacti the size of houses!!
we went to "jameos del aqua.....a lava tunnel....thought that that was good until we went to the "cueva de los verdes....a whole lava cave....now that was just as spectacular as say wookey hole here. a bit scarey in places....they dont seem to have the same sence of safety when you go abroad and i could have done with something to hold onto in places and it didn't help with the guide keep saying...watch out the its 30 metres down that hole!!
we also went to the home of ceasar manrique, the famous sculpter, painter,designer. travelling around the island you cant miss his sculptures as there is one on quite a few roundabouts. that was good. there is an art display here and i have to say i was impressed at some of the things....and his house, well it was something else.
we went to the market in teguise.....good market...but the town was so much nicer when we went back on another day.
we were lucky to go into the church here....oooo a tearful moment....as was going into the church in Yaiza and the one in Mancha Blanca. ooo the churches are just beautiful and i could have easily spent a few hours just sitting in them!!
there were so many other places we went....haria...an ok place....but woo the road to it....scarey or what!!....la geria...where they grow the grapes for the wine.....you have to see the lengths these people go to to try and grow stuff with no soil!!
famara...pmsl...the ONLY beach we went to....brillaint....a beach surrounded by mountains not really for swimming in but mainly used for windsurfing.
we did pop into puerto del carmen, playa blanca and costa teguise...but they were a bit too "like home" for us.
we went to puerto calero....just to look at the boats....oooo very posh!! we went back early evening to feed the fish in the sea....pmsl...they seemed to know just when and where to hang around....100's there were!!!
there were loads of other little places we went to....my map of lanzarote has been well used.....but i still think there is much much more to see of the island.

OOO Brilliant report Dottie! Glad you both enjoyed yourself!
Must admit..its never appealed to me..but obviously there is soooo much to do and see!
My friend has a place...think it MUST be puerto calero - its by the harbour with the boats. I'll have to ask her.
Will we see pics of O.H.'s all over tan???

and no....i'm not allowed to show the rudie pictures.....well hubby said i wasn't allowed to post them.....ha ha ha ha ha...he never said anything about showing them on the camera!!
