THE THIEF OF BAD GAGS
|
1 bottle of cheap fruity red, Cooking brandy, 1/2 bottle of ruby port, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves (to be used sparingly), Honey/Sugar, Cointreau, Blackcurrant Juice (Ribena) – optional, Chilli powder (use with care), Lemon and Orange (quartered and squeezed to taste and some rind peeled off), Ginger wine
These should be mixed with 1-2 pints hot water, heat to the boil, but not boiled.
If you were feeling 'professional' you could boil spices, sugar and citrus peel in a cup or two of water to better extract the flavours for a couple of minutes before adding to mix.

If you have a slow cooker Betty sling it in there ....it reheats great, just pour it back into the wine bottles, once its cooled down but again dont boil it. Personally I like a fair bit of sugar in mine and a couple of cinnamon sticks. Stud a satsuma or half an orange with the cloves then its easy to fish out when you come to serve. If you want it more dilute add orange juice or lemonade.
