Mince & Potato Pie - Another Slimming World Recipe

You can make as much or as little as you like -

Lean minced Beef
Carrots (chopped)
Onions (chopped)
Garlic (chopped)
Beef Bovril (I used 1/2 pint)
224g Potatoes with skins on (per person) (use as Healthy Extra)

Fry mince, onions & garlic until browned/softened. Add the carrots, stock made with Bovril and simmer for 5 minutes.

Slice the potatoes as thin as you can. Put the mince mixture in a oven proof dish then put the potatoe slices on the top. Spray the top with fry light & put in oven on about 200 c for 25 minutes.

I had extra potatoes as there wasn't enough room on top of the mince so I sprayed a seperate pan with frylite placed the potatoes on the tray then sprayed the top with frylite & put salt on them so they crisped up. After cooking for 15 minutes I took them out of the oven, and put them on top of the potatoes on the mince mixture. so the top layer of potatoes were really crispy.

Ermm....how is that a slimming recipe then? It`s just a slightly different way of doing a normal mince & potato pie.

Actually if you did it as a cottage pie with boiled potatoes mashed instead of the fried ones (fry lite or not) it would have less calories.

I love meat but Julie is a semi-veggie so when I do anything involving mince or sausages we use turkey/chicken options or Quorn, which is mushroom.

By the time the gravy has been absorbed it tastes pretty much the same as minced beef is fairly bland anyway.

Tescos have just changed their Turkey & Chicken sausages to Chicken only (still in an Orange wrapper) and they are really tastier than the pork or beef options.

Never thought I would say that a meat substitute was nicer but the same goes for Quorn mince/chunks once you get used to the quicker cooking times and slightly different technique in assembly of the meal.

Slimming world works by not eating carbs with protein & vice versa. You can have a certain amount of potatoes as long as they are cooked with their skins on for fibre but you can eat as much meat as you like.

You can't have mashed potatoes with this as mashed pots aren't a healthy b option so you would have to count it as a syn.

Thanks for explaining that Stacey....but I still fail to see the difference between the same weight of spuds whetehr they are boiled or fried.

Per gram it will be the same amount of carbohydrate plus any the calorific value of any oil that may have been used to fry them or butter added to mash.

A spud is a spud is a spud!

It's too complicated for me to follow...

..and that explanation is way to complicated for me to follow!!!!! I read Michael Winners "diet" in the Mail yesterday, and basically the message is "Eat Less". That really is all there is to it!!!!!!!
