theres a fab villa on the private rentals on HT that looks great.
to be honest im a greece fan, but the friends who we go with would like a short flight, they like do do nothing on holiday where as we prefer to do a bit of sightseeing and snorkelling and stuff so we need a bit of both
are there plenty of shops, bars and restaurants near by?

There are loads of bars, restaurants and shops.
The places we went to were more traditional Spanish as my friend lives there and has Spanish friends.
The mar menor has gentle waves as its more like a lake than the sea.
There is a lovely marina.

Oh Gail Ive just seen this!
We stayed here twice and its luuuuurvely!
We looked out at the ocean on one side of our complex and the Mar Menor on the other...............we used to get the bus up to the square where there are nice shops and lovely little jewellery stalls selling handmade crafts and jewellery.
Mostly Spanish people on holiday there, which was great, as it was very "traditionally" Spanish and not full of English breakfasts etc............(ok if you like that sort of thing, not criticising it.........but sometimes you like to feel as if you are really in "Spain")
Id throughly recommend it Gail, we had a wonderful time
