Has anyone been to Krakow?

We are going for a long weekend in October and I'm looking for a nice hotel, I have got some info from HT but I'm hoping someone on HC can also help.

Well, its all booked, I'm off tomorrow until Sunday, its took me ages to choose a hotel but I've settled on this one, I only booked the hotel last night

Its where Schindlers list was filmed.
Oscar Schindlers factory is in Krakow and is now a museum.
Speilberg filmed in the ghetto (remember the scene with the little girl in the red coat) and parts of the ghetto wall still remain.
its got the largest town square in Europe.
There is a castle & cathedral
you can visit Auschwitz ( I've been told there are some very upsetting sights)
and the salt mines

Thanks for the info, mcBabe, it all sounds very interesting.

I must admit I could never face seeing any holocaust things though....

not out of disrespect, but I have seen so many heartbreaking progs about it on TV etc, and read Anne Frank's diary at school
that I couldn't face any more

it was such a horrible chapter in world history
although there have been other mass exterminations in the past, and even some nowadays

I have grieved for the people who suffered but I shouldn't have to feel any guilt for something I was not alive for
(and I would find it hard not to feel guilt if I went there)

I have seen evidence of the German occupation in the Channel islands, and the prison camps on Alderney where forced labourers were made to build fortifications

that is enough for me

The girls stayed at the Grand and would recommend it to anyone. Very central.
