KentWell, we`re back from a very wet and windy Kent, but I gather we were`nt alone with the bad weather, so can`t really grumble I suppose. We stayed in Bungalow 150 at the St. Margaret`s Bay holiday park, and although I can`t vouch for all the other bungalows, ours was lovely. Nicely decorated and furnished, well heated (just as well!), and a reasonable small supply of food in the fridge and cupboards, including a bottle of wine and 2 cans of beer!
On the Sunday, we went to Folkestone, as we`d heard that there was a good 300 stall market on the seafront. It was OK, but we didn`t stay too long because of the rain pouring down, but I managed to get 3 T-shirts for our Scotland holiday, and hubby got a couple of pairs of trousers. We didn`t think an awful lot of the seafront area , it was a bit shabby and run down, but the market is good. Hubby was browsing round a stall selling tools when the stallholder said "don`t you recognise me?" Hubby has a terrible memory and said no, turns out this bloke was his apprentice in Boston back in 1979, aged 16, now lives in Folkestone!
On Monday had a ride to Deal, quite liked it there, nice seafront and good pedestrianised shopping area.
Tuesday went to Sandwich, hoping to make it to the bay, where the Roman road, Watling street starts, but somehow got lost, so drove to Canterbury instead to look at the Cathedral........beautiful! So glad we went.
Wednesday, had a drive along the so-called "Tourist Coastal Route" (Hah!) to Hastings in Sussex. We hardly saw the sea at all on the way, and sorry to say it, but we didn`t think an awful lot of Hastings, but then we never left the seafront area and only stayed long benough to get a meal before heading back.
Thursday we went to Dover Castle, it was the first day without the strong blustery wind so we felt a bit safer going then. It`s very impressive on top of the cliffs, but a bit pricey to get in, at £9. However, the secret wartime tunnels inside the cliffs made it well worthwhile, very interesting, and well worth seeing.
Friday was the day that I had been both looking forward to and dreading at the same time, the day that I was to meet up with my cyber friend Eunice, who lives on the Isle of Sheppey. I needn`t have worried, it felt as if we`d known each other for years! She and her partner, Frank, took us to lunch at a lovely olde worlde pub at the far end of the island, The Ferry House Inn, the food was delicious, then they took us into Sheerness to do a bit of shopping and bought us a cuppa. It was a lovely day, and I hope to meet up with them again sometime, they`re a smashing couple.
All in all, despite the atrocious weather conditions, we had a good week away, looking forward to Scotland in July now!

Forgot to say, the holiday park itself was very nice as well, fairly quiet, but not yet into full holiday season. No amusements as such, just a bar, bistro, and leisure centre with pool and sauna. The grounds are really well looked after, with well manicured lawns. There is a shop on site, and a fairly small children`s playground. It`s about a 2 or 3 minute drive downhill to the pretty bay, or a fairly hefty walk!
