Jamie's ministery of food (bit of a rant sorry)Not very impressed to be honest, he says he doesn't blame individuals who have never cooked but the lady sobbing because she couldn't afford to shop properly for food and lighting up a cigarette didn't seem blameless to me. I don't often cook for much longer than 20 minutes to make a meal so people saying they don't have time because it's quicker to get kebabs and chips with cheese must live above a kebab shop !
One thing did come out of this programme and I have seen generally in recent years is apathy and laziness has taken over, people have children and seem to expect them to raise themselves aided by a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate ! People are selfish and smoke and buy things for themselves rather than making sacrifices for their children.
What the answer is I have no idea, but unless we change peoples attitudes to family and making an effort for themselves and their children it will never change.

Well I didn`t see it but I agree with what you have posted!
Some of the `fast foods` aren`t all that fast either. Why do pre-prepared meals take 40 minutes in the oven when it only takes 20 minutes max to steam/boil the majority of vegetables and only 15-30 minutes to cook chops/sausages/chicken breasts etc. from raw?
Same applies to pasta bakes and the like...past only takes 12-15 mins!

It is laziness. Do people think there is less time in a day nowadays? My mum worked evenings and my dad worked five, sometimes six days a week. We never had ready meals, and never had a takeaway. We sometimes, as a treat, went to the "chippy". The nearest we had to a ready-meal was fish fingers. My mum wasn't the best cook - she never heard of garlic or pepper or herbs and spices. But it was honest food.
My best friend, whom I often talk about, lost her fiancee to cancer when the baby was 3 months old. If she can look after a baby on her own, manage to feed him decent food when she was grieving, living on benefits, then anyone can. He is now a picky toddler, but she still manages.

What also got to me was one woman on benefits had a huge 8 burner cooker and about 50inch of TV and could afford to smoke but couldn't afford bus fare to go to buy food !
Yes I'll be honest I am jealous our cooker went wrong before xmas and we had to go without one for 6 weeks to save up for a really cheap one same with our fridge we have just had 5 weeks without one until we could afford to buy a new one !

that 8 burner cooker had never been cooked on.. shameful wasteful people..
kebabs and chips for t.
they must have more money than sense.
when we have a treat of a take away, i always felt full and bloated, but within half an hour i was hungry again..
i always say never again....and what a waste of money...
it is only because we feel lazy that we have a take out.
so we limit our self to one a month...much prefer home cooking..
