HydrangeasI've just noticed one hydrangea plant that got missed when we cut back. It's still got the dead flower heads on. What should I do? Should I leave it or snip them off?

You should realy leave hydrangeas while spring. this is because the heads offer a small amount of protection to new shoots in frost. cut it back in spring, and see if there is any noticably difference with the other plants as an experiment.

A lot of late perennials are best left while spring really. I know they look scruffy, but they do offer good frost protection to crowns, and its somewhere for hedgehogs to nest.

We never used to worry about cutting back etc but since our gardener did a bunk without telling us ( He's been doing our garden for over 10 years then just disappears) we don't have a clue. We use next doors handyman who is a bit like Jack the Ripper when he gets a pair of secateurs in his hands
