hover v rotary mowers?Hiya gardening gurus,
I have a crappy hover mower (generic brand, bought out of desperation cos my Flymo hover motor blew up at the start of spring this year). Its rubbish, and I noticed even my Flymo wasn't brilliant at close-cutting my grass.
What I wanted to ask is, do you prefer rotary mowers to hover? I know rotary mowers are heavier, but they have wheels on to help with that. Do they give a better cut? We have a smallish square lawn at the front of the house (about 15ft by 15ft), but the back garden is about 3 times the size and is all grass. Its not all level though - there is a grassed bank sloping up to a raised part of the garden. Could a rotary mower cope with this?
Just looking for some advice before I go scouring the sales for a decent mower, to replace my crappy hover.
Ta,
Elaine

Are we talking leccy or petrol machines Elaine? Rotarys always give a better cut , and can give you the 'stripes' if you have one with a roller. If you have a biggish lawn or bank a petrol one is worth considering as it will drive itself.
Get back to me if youve any more questions, as ive had experience of loads of mowers over the years.

I was thinking electric rotary guest thanks,
The grassed bank isn't really high, it graduates probably less than a foot up to the raised grass bit at the back of the garden.
