Just a word of warning...the Wenceslas Square area is not so nice just sounds Christmassy I suppose...and its not a square.
Parents stayed at the Cloister Inn which is well regarded 3star and well placed for all the sites. We stayed at the City Hotel Moran, which was a bit further out but handy for the underground. Friends stayed at the Aria which they enjoyed, a short walk over the Charles Bridge to the Old Town square area.
Prague is pretty small so if you get a well placed hotel you can walk to most areas of interest in 15-20 minutes.

We were looking at the Elysee hotel
Do you know it

No don't know the Elysee...but gets good reviews on Tripadvisor and its pretty new so should be in good nick...not too far from the Jalta hotel where we considered staying.
When I said Wenceslas Sq was not so nice I was thinking along the lines of people I know being approched by ladies of ill repute and the like.

I don't mind the odd prossie or two....they don't usually bother couples in my experience.Stayed in the Oro blanco in Tenerife and the street outside was full of them.....left us alone tho.
It was the reviews on trip advisor I was going on for this hotel, plus it's coming out at a reasonable price and the rooms look to be of a decent size and well furnished.I can't abide dirty dingy rooms even if it is only for 3 nights.
I'm still open to suggestions tho

Tango - stayed at the Holiday Inn express - its fab
Close enough to have a 10 minute walk to the square and its all brand new, with a great bathroom and shower and the breakfast was very good too and im sure we only paid about £40 a night

I'm just waiting on the ok from another couple.....he works for securicor and has to book his days off......she works with me and I've picked a weekend that neither of us are working so she'll only have to take the Tuesday off.
As soon as I get the all clear from her I'm booking the flights
