Help with name of filmI'm looking for a film for Steven for Xmas, in it James Stewart plays a widower in Virginia, with several sons and a daughter. He is against slavery and is a pacifist who eventually has to go to war.
But for the life of me I can't remember the name of the film.
Anyone recognise it ??

No he wasn't a pacifist in that he was a mountain man/trapper.

I think Muller is right. I watched that film a few weeks ago for the very first time. It ticks all the boxes.
Edit:- sorry for any confusion , Muller was on pre-mod hence the delayed visibility of the post.

When I was 16 somebody told me they's just watched it at the pictures and it was a real tearjerker. I meant to watch it but never got around to it.
Anyway it just happened to be on Sky a couple of weeks ago and I watched it for the first time. Only 45 years later. I was dissappointed because it didn't make me cry.
