Eric and Shiva's charity walk(Copy of what was posted in General Chat and hence invisible to guests and externally referred links from the hiking community etc.)
A mutual friend of mine called Eric Welsh is doing a 620 mile hike next April over arguably the most challenging terrain - for Macmillan Cancer support. Eric is 67 years young and next April he will be carrying a 48 lb back pack accompanied by his dog Shiva on the walk. He is walking the West Highland way, immediately followed by The Cape Wrath trail, turning round and walking all the way back again ! The event will take 8 weeks and will be done purist style meaning he will be self sufficient carrying his food and tent/equipment for camping overnight. He doesn't have internet access, so relies on friends (like me ) to publicise this for him.
The following short video I made introduces Eric and features him with Shiva on the Pennine Way.
If you wish to help, donations can be made via the Justgiving website

Thanks for any support,
Regards, Frank

This is what Eric got up to On the west highland way last year.
Walk still in progress, he is still on route to Cape wrath, Eric now has his own youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/hikingeric
Note that the charity appeal contributions period has been extended. If you haven't contributed yet, it takes only 2 minutes and this is the only chat forum that this appeal is displayed in. No on line contributions have been recieved for over 3 months.

Just an Update, the videos we recieve (by post ) are the best guide and are posted on erics youtube channel The videos appear in reverse order (most recent on the top row). So to follow the walk ( apart from some of last years footage in between ) you start with the promo video bottom RHS , then go left along the row, up to the next row etc.
The most recent footage from the actual charity walk isa montage of photos taken on the walk (currently) the second clip in the top row.
I can tell you that Eric & shiva are doing very well at one point were ahead of schedule but lost that eventually and reached Cape Wrath 10 days or so ago. He is currently well under way on the way back (stil on the southbound Cape wrath trail) he should reach the end of that walk (Fort William) by the weekend - then a couple of days rest before commencing the 4th and final walk the WHW (west Highland Way) south back to Milngavie where he started in early April.
Come on Eric and Shiva
