DAFFODILSWhen I moved to our cottage I planted over 500 daffodil bulbs and in the spring they looked lovely, however, the last couple of years only half of them have flowered the rest are just leaves, does anyone know why and what I can do about it
thanks

when they start to fade....what do you do as regards the leaves? do you let them die back to nothing??...or cut them right down after flowers have gone, or what? They are now known as 'blind' - the ones with just leaves.
Have a look here.

Thank you guest the link you posted is good and has told me what I wanted to know. I do let the leaves die down each year, but for the last couple of years I have been lazy and have not been feeding them as I have done in previous years, so I know what to do this year.
Thanks again for your reply

ooh I used to tie mine in knots...I won't do that now!
I've had to water my tubs this winter
The buds are just swelling now and showing a bit of yellow

That is interesting - and useful. Will definitely not be cutting mine this year.

I feed mine with tomato food every year when they die down and it really helps them
Wait until they are completely dead and then just dilute the tomato food in a watering can and pour it over them. It encourages them to multiply

It is important to dead head them when the flowers have faded the leaves are still putting energy into the bulb and not wasting any forming seed heads.
