Depends which type you have Dot
You can get some 5 minute cous cous that you just simmer for 5 mins. Some you keep in the bag and just fling them in the micro
If it the natural cous cous then yes you do put that in a saucepan with water and boil until the liquid reduces out.
Sound like you have an instant one

omg...this is complicated now...so should i just add the water then...and how much do i use...its just for me and hubby

Why cous cous?, it has no flavour. Normally you just add boiling water and leave for 5 to 10 minutes, then add other ingrediants to give flavour, eg. nuts or herbs.

Dot
Does the pack say how many it serves
If it's normal cous cous then one bag(whitworths) would feed a starving african family
If it's the instant type then they usually seve 2.I think the last pack I had you had to cover with boiling water and it was already flavoured.....garlic and corriander I think

Just follow the instructions on the packet. It only takes a few minutes.
Cous cous, if you buy it plain, is boring and you have to add flavour - and it feeds the 5000!
But it sounds like you have a sort-of "ready" version, which should have more flavour. You can make stock instead of water for added flavour.

cook the peppers separately and add when you stir the cous cous after the standing time, dont be tempted to touch it, make sure you keep the lid on for the alloted time.
enjoy, i loive cous cous, also i love cheese and mushroom risotto, with thick bread..yummmm

Just add boiling water to cover by about 0.5" and cover with a T towel for about 5 mins. Add to sauce, either curried, chilli or whatever you fancy. Lovely!

Quinoa...I bought some last week. Cooked it. Took one mouthful and threw the whole bag away. It wasn't cheap either

I know Hils - I bought that and some Active Manuka Honey from the health shop....didn't get much change from £10! What did you think of the 'shape' it turned into? Like loads of little comma's!!! It IS supposed to be VERY good for you though - mines going in the bin too!

I actually like quinoa Well, there's not much to dislike I suppose, cos it doesn't taste of much, but I like the texture of it, and the shape pleases me It also makes me feel virtuous eating it, though I must admit I do like it smothered in olive oil, which I suppose defeats the object rather!!!!!
Couscous, nope, just don't like it, even when I add stuff to it.
What about fried polenta? That's another "interesting" dish!!!!

reading this made me hungry, so just made some green thai cous cous, yum. we watched a chef on tv ( the female one, can't remember her name) cook polenta and she made it look soooo lovely, she was mmmm and rrrrring every mouthful---so went right out and bought some, did the recipe with cheese and it was ----HORRID--all in the bin. she must of been on a backhander from the polenta company.

well i had it.
i poured boiling water over it....added a chicken stock cube...and let it rest for 5 mins....then added cooked chopped peppers, red onins and chopped baby corn.
stirred in some hot chilli sauce.
yep it made a change and hubby liked it too.
i couldn't eat loads of it...but i'll do it again...and will also do some cold when i have one of my buffet parties

I serve it with chicken casserole instead of potato. I mix it all together so it's not the main ingredient. Just a texture.

I like my cous cous mixed with chopped up roasted veggies and cubes of feta cheese, then stuffed into a whole roasted pepper.
