bashed in coniferright . garden is 5 years old, and lovingly planted and nurtured and maintained by myself,,,,,, so ive been growing a conifer for 3 years and i just had a walk to the bottom of the garden to find it s been absolutely battered,,,,,,, loads of leaves around the base and big chunks of branches missing in the middle,,,,, and around the bottom at the back, its terribly messed up.... i asked the kids if they had been playing sword practise on it (as when we go for walks in the countryside they like whipping ferns down etc!! and bashing old logs etc). the kids swear they havent touched it but short of pruning it right down to get it a decent shape,,, is it cats, chasing birds??? never had this prob before, the branches look like they have had a weight on anot just snapped off<< ill try do a piccy of it

Sounds like someone may have been climbing in it. They are quite hardy.

its only 5 foot tall and about 2 across,,, could be a cat but as its near the fence i would have expected the broken branches to be at the top?
when it stops raining im gonna clear all the bits up from around the base, keep the kids away from it and see what happens!

ps htere is one next to it that totally died!!!!! but the bottom has started growing again!

We have had problems with one section of our well established conifer hedge that is about 7ft tall. Areas appear to be dying off and there are white mites on the branches. Anyway, I have sprayed liberally with bug spray and am keeping my fingers crossed.
