have just booked to go to barbados in 5 weeks time.
we are staying at the almond beach village. st peters. any info would be nice. the website looks good but was looking for a bit more info for the kids age 13 and 14.
do we need any jabs etc also what is the currency is it us dollars.
also i believe the taxi's are easy to get outside the airport and roughly how much would a taxi cost to the above hotel.
thanks

Hi Ali. yes, loads of taxis outside the airport, but if you are with a tour company I would go with their bus. If you do decide on a cab check and agree a price before you get in, it will take around 35 mins to get to your Hotel.

Think you will find that the kids get plenty of fun time, bet they spend most of it on the beach and boogy boarding. You could also try going to the Wildlife Reserve, try to time it around 3pm when the monkeys arrive to feed and play, great entertainment.
Jobs ..... when we first went about 1997 we had (if I remeber correctly) tetanus, hepititus A (with follow up jab which lasts ten years) no Malaria as you don't need it for Bds.
Currency is Barbados Dollars but US widley accepted and you will find almost all menus and items priced for both currencies, however, if somesames womething (even cabs) costs xxxx dollars always ask if that Barbados Dollars or US, or you may get 'stung' !!

St Peters is a lovely Parish, some of the best beaches on the West Coast.
We have stayed close to the Almond Beach at Sandridge near Speightstown, also along that stretch stayed at Tro[pical Escape and Sunswept and Art Studios both of which are in Holetown. Mullins Bay (now known as Suga Suga is wonderful and lots of good watersports.)

Should you think of anything else don't hesitate to give me a shout

Best regards

another question
heather you mentioned about barbados dollars and us dollars.
would i be better of taking barbados dollars i am thinking of the visas you have to pay for when you leave, or will us dollars be accepted. also if we are out and about we will need some cash.
also do you have a rough idea how much the visa's are.
thanks

Ali - You don't need a Visa. You do however have to pay a departure tax of 25 BDS (Barbados Dollars)when you get to the airport on your return journey and you need the correct money in cash (I am sure in BDS not US)
Personally I would take BDS with you, I would imagine there will be a safe in your room at the Hotel. You could also take English money and change it at the bank should you run short. We don't use travel cheques anymore - too much hastle, the only time I wouild use travellers cheques would be if I knew there was no safe or safety deposit boxes available. We also tend to pay for our meals out with visa.
Yes you will need money for 'out and abouts', and things are not cheap in barbados believe me. I am so envious, this is the second year we have been unable to go as my Mum is terminally ill and it is difficult to get a break.

Did I send you my word doc with hints on Barbados I can't remember, if you would like me to send it you please drop me a PM with your e.mail address and I can let you have it, about ten pages of stuff, restaurant recommendations, places to see things to do etc etc.
aligclark

sorry heather i missed your reply. i keep getting cut of the internet by daughters boyfriend ringing every 5 mins.
sorry didn't mean visa i meant tax.
no you didn't send me your doc with recommendations will pm you with email address.
thanks again

Ali Barbados is fabulous, like Heather we also stayed at the Topical Escape a about 3 years or so ago. I thought I would remind you to take driving licences as its very easy and fairly cheap to hire a car and as they drive on the same side as us its a doddle. If you don't fancy the driving you just have to get on a Reggae bus into Bridgetown its hilarious. Don't forget to visit Woolworths

my parents fly to barbados a week tomorrow. They have been told the awful news that they are flying with thomas cook oh well. On a serious note with their tickets was a notice saying there is a bad sickness and diarheoa (sp!) bug at the moment. It stated ways to keep safe and to report any illness to some phone number. Anyone know anymore information about this?

well they are home now lol
