Anyone got plans for Tenerife in 2008?I mentioned that hubby and I are thinking of going to Tenerife in feb 08, and wickedchris asked me what, where, when how etc.
so here's the plan so far........
we have been to Puerto de la Cruz...loved it but it rained lots
and Los Gigantes, staying in Poblado Marinero apartments. they are a bit scruffy, but very spacious
now I have to admit we're not party animals, we like walking, swimming if poss (tried the unheated lido in feb... ), and relaxing with our books and a quiet drinky on the balcony
so we're not sure that PDLA is for us....
however we do like somewhere picturesque as hubby likes to paint watercolours as a hobby ...so not somewhere totally cut off with no views or local colour......
thought we'd try a hotel this time so don't have to faff about with restaurants...no I KNOW this is the high spot of some people;s holidays, but we have to make decisions all the time at work (also work with the public), so just want to turn up at the buffet, help ourselves and booger off
we've always gone with Thomsons from a local airport (Southampton or Bournemouth)
Fancy the Barcelo Santiago in Puerto santiago this year....got brilliant views of the coast and cliffs, a heated pool and is within walking distance of Playa de la Arena beach.
Thomsons quote £424 online for a week in feb excl in flight meals and insurance. Or have got a voucher for 5000 nectar points if we book instore before Aug 31st.
I know I've probably convinced you we're totally bonkers chris
what are your plans???????
P.S. had to edit the title or it sounded like I was inviting everybody for a meet

Tenerife can be lovely in February
Chris is more knowledgable than me when it comes to hotels. San Eugenio to Fanabe end fo PDLA is nice though you do tend to get a more reserved and mature type of visitor to the island in the winter months.
Have a look at the Bouganville or Adeje gran.. Both Nice hotels

I'm going to tenerife at easter for 9 nights. Booked real cheap flights with ryanair.
what dates are you looking at, flying from where etc.
have you thought of staying at the far end of las americas, the costa adeje area, the far end of it, there are some lovely 4* hotels in this area, with nice beaches and some nice bars.
And your only a small taxi ride away from where laws apt is cause i love this area.
If you let me know what your after, i will see what is the best deal i can get for you.

PDLA is as noisy or quiet as you want it to be.....you don't have to hang with the crowd ouside Veronicas.
We have been 3 times to that resort and we love it....it's quite big so you can go to the quieter end if you dont like the noise.Personally I've never found any of it particularly noisy and we stayed almost on the Patch area one year.....didn't hear a thing...San Eugene area is a fab place to stay and only a short taxi ride from the centre of PDLA about 4 euros worth...
We are hoping to go to Tenerife 2008 prob Sept time

I went to PDLA once, and really didn't think I would enjoy it, but I loved every minute of it
See you're back Acorn, what did you book in the end? I love the look of the Barcelo Santiago!! Did you go for that?
|

I've been a zillion times to PDLA and you can easily avoid the noise.

Nice walks along the front from the Bouganville, San Eugenio shopping centre and Puerto Colon marina are nearby.
Good choice of places for a drink of an evening and loads of choice for entertainment, from good vocalists to rock pop tribute acts.
Well worth hiring a car to have a look at the interior. So many places to see. Masca is quite spectacular and mount Tedie is a must see.

ooh hi missed you sue
well yes we did go for the Barcelo Santiago in the end......
I think it might have cost a few pounds more than the online site.....
makes me laugh how they say oh well the website is nothing to do with us, when they're both thomson's ...She said I would need to bring a printed quote to prove it, if i wanted to say it cost less online
but (ooh sorry again...breadmaker beeped so after getting the bread out I started cooking a curry at that point )
but...I had my 5000 nectar points voucher (worth £50), and of course I got more when booking, so it balances out.....I hope
Well hubby was all for me booking it there, so who am I to argue?
Wickedchris is still queen of the online deals
Anyway here's some pics of the barcelo santiago
There's a new footpath all round the outside of the hotel, so you can walk one way to Los Gigantes, and the other way to Playa Arena, with spectacular waves on the headland where the B.S. is situated
I think we might have "done" this part of the island after next year...so might be looking at Adeje in the future
thanks for all the opinions

Well, when I looked it up on the website is was quoting over 500 quid per person half board and that was with 100 quid off for being on line The prices change like the wind. An I know when I was searching for a holiday and the best deal, in the end I got so stressed I didn't bother!!!!
It looks absolutely lovely
|
Acorncup
|
Well the £424 was the basic price of hotel + flight + transfer, ...then there's flight meals, insurance etc.........
funny enough to get the photos, I just searched for the hotel accomm only, and it was £636 without the flights or transfer
How do they do that then?????
trying to stop the DIY-ers????????
incidentally we do seem to have picked a cheaper week, by avoiding half term.......it goes up to £490 the next week
sorry laws missed your post too will definitely research adeje area next time

Looks really nice Acorn
Sure you will enjoy it. Dunno how you and OH feel about driving abroad, if you are not to concerned I would try a car for a day at least to do a bit of exploring. 10 mins from the coast and you can be in pine forests

I a going to Tenerife 8th -22nd August 08 not booked yet as we are looking for the cheapest deal to be near are friends who are stying at the Bitacora.
Went a few years ago and enjoyed it.
So i am trying to do a DIY but its not looking good.

oh emma that's bang in the school holidays
from what I discovered by accident, the hotel only price was more than the package
have you tried looking at packages?
I've just been looking on Thomson site...
2 weeeks at Las pyramides from manchester, £640 each...
a few other apts simialr prices....
not sure if you would go from Manchester?
Portland had only limited accommodation choice, all more expensive
Airtours were around £700 too
what have you found so far?
|
bettyboop
|
Acorn-was thinking of Bitacora or Vulcana PDLA but will investigate much more as I have plenty of time!
|
Tango Bunny
|
I wouldn't book the Piramidies....the pool is in the shade until about 1pm
I can recommend Las Palmeras it's a H10 hotel and although it's mostly full of Germans,Belgians and Spanish it is a lovely hotel. We were there in May 2005 ,the hotel has really lush gardens and the food is to die for.....and because the clientelle is mainly elderly there are no screaming kids in the pool,no queue to use the computers and reletavely no noise at night.Added bonus it's right on the Patch area not far from the Bitacora and has direct access to the beach
|
Emma
|
We have been quoted around £1200+ for the 2 of us.
We generally fly from Manchester if Liverpool is not an option.
|
Acorncup
|
oh emma that is what I was finding.......
perhaps you could ask wickedchris for some ideas.....?
of course that price is for hotels so you won;t have to pay for breakfast and evening meal.....
but I wondered if you wanted to eat with your friends?
in which case self-catering would be better.....
|
Emma
|
Thanks for your help and imput Acorn, that price i was quoted was a self catering apartment, Parque De La Paz which i have stayed in before and i know its pretty close to the Bitacora.
