Hi - anyone got any ideas for simple to make starters to have at xmas dinner. We are having turkey and trimmings for main course but need some inspiration for starters.
Nothing too complicated or time consuming as don't want to spend all morning in the kitchen.
Ta x

we just have a glass of sherry or two
you could always have some nuts and nibbles too.....surely people will have enough to eat anyway?
otherwise something like prawn cocktail or smoked salmon on blinis or mousse that you can prepare in advance and won't take up precious space on your cooker.......? |

4 of us have prawn cocktail, 1 has corn-on-the-cob.
What about making a pan of soup the night before? _________________

Thai fish cakes are easy.
Get some fish, white fish is good, so is smoked. Flake it up, being careful to remove bones.
Whizz together some fresh ginger, a few cloves of garlic, a couple of chillies and a few spring onions. Mix in with the fish. Add salt and pepper, plus a dash of fish sauce and soy sauce, then chop some fresh coriander and add that.
Mix and mould into shapes, then fry. You can mix in some mash before frying too if you want them to go further.
Yum. _________________

Chilli sauce.
Chop up some red onions finely and fry until soft but not brown. Add a few cloves of garlic, add some fresh tomatoes, chopped, plus a bit of tinned toms. Salt and pepper. A few chillies. A dash of tomato ketchup, dash of worchester sauce. Simmer.
If you want it sweeter, add a teaspoon of sugar. But remember that sugar does calm the chilli flavour down too.
You can either have this thick and chunky, or whizz it up in a blender for a thick sauce. _________________
