Any recommendation for 2/3 nights good hotels in the UK? Cities of intrest or large towns type of thing...NOT london or the major ones Brum., Liverpol etc. More your Stratfords / Chesters etc. that sort of thing.

we do have a few short breaks in the village hotels...but they're mainly up north so good for us but could be a bit too near home for you.

The last 'smart' hotel we stayed in had a heli-pad out the back. Any links for these places?

how about this place just outside chester http://www.devere.co.uk/Hotels/Ca...efault.aspx?EQID=01190186-9999999

this is the Grosvenor http://www.chestergrosvenor.co.uk/iflash.shtml

Craxton Wood http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/craxtonwood/?ac=ggppc1

or there's Nunsmere Hall , which is where the last radio times cover featuring Jill DANDO was photographed just before she was murdered and it came out the same week

http://www.nunsmere.co.uk/

and yet again theres is Knutsford and the Longview http://www.longviewhotel.com/ famous for being Martin Bells HQ when he fought the election

Ive found quite a big 'divide' in the standard of UK hotels nowadays. Where you would expect a gradual increase/decrease in standards as the price went up/down....there seems to be a distinct £50-75 a night threshold. Anything below, i find very average, and most times above - you can be sure of a bit of quality. Ive got past the stage of 'cheap and chearful' when im looking for accomodation. Other folks hair in the plugholes, 'marks' on the walls, and peeling paint are things i dont want to find in a hotel room nowadays. Weve done the scrimping when the kids were young and we were skint!

ps..just found time to peruse those hotels - very nice!
