On August 2nd we arrived at No 7, Dog and Duck square, in the villiage of Flamborough, a small cute, quaint and quite village about 5 miles from BRidlington. It has 2 chippys, a chinese, hairdressers, chemist butchers and family bakers, o and about 6 pubs! Everything is just around the cornner.
The cottage was clean, modern yet a few eclectic pieces of furniture, eg, a working HMV Gramophone in the bedroom!. It is a typical fishermans cottage, 2 up and 1 and half down, wooden floors, new kitchen with belfast sink and wood tops, and a 8 ft square back yard shared between 5 houses!! not good if you like a morning coffee out side.
The attic had been converted into another bedroom with blanket box, old and new furniture, nice bedding and a massive wooden bed.
On the Sunday, we traversed into Bridlington, a big bay of sand, promenade and obligatory fun fair, a good working harbour and about a million fish and chip shops,,,
Food here was very cheap, i mean £1 for a decent hotdog, £4 for a real big portion of fresh caught fish and chips, and £2 for a double burger, fast food sold at proper prices!
The prom was clean and no dogs allowed on the beach at all bar the north end, now a little grip was that i know not all dog owners clean up after them, we always do, but the amount of rubbish, nappies, cans bottles and paper left on the beach was just as bad!
[Monday, was North Landing, a cove, ( one of many ) with in a 3 minute drive, parking again was £3 for the day, but it was spectacular,
There are a hundred piccys of this area, the caves and things so if requested ill pot a few more, but i dont want to bore,,
so, after the boys had explored every nook cranny crevice and cave, we went back for tea and a rest, to start again,
Tuesday went to cayton bay on the reccomendation of a fellow memeber,,
It was a massive sweeping bay, a surf shop at the top of the very steep descent to the beach and no facilities, and i didnt pack a lunch ,! but a couple of hours of messing about, the dog having a really good run about we felt a few spots of rain and returned to the car and onto Scarborough!
It rained, and rained, and that was it,
Wednesday, Robin hoods bay, another quaint little place slotted on the edge of a bank, it was a case of how many little houses can you fit onto a cliff face! it was lovley, and a great beach with yet another few million rock pools and fossil hunting escapades!
then it was onto Whitby, charming, busy, few slot machine places but ofer the bridge, well that was going back a few hundred years, tiny cobbled streets, that lead upto Whitby abbey ( no we didnt , it was too far and a bit late)
you could easily be transported back to the age of crinolines and rats!
This is also the birthplace of Dracula, Bram Stoker had his inspiration for this here, and looking at the Cormorants perched on the harbour wall facing out to sea ,wings outstretched drying them in the breeze cut an eerie vision!
Thursday was back to local area and visited a few more coves, Daynes Dyke, and the Flamborough light house, and more caves!
On Friday we visited Bridlington again where hub and the kids went on a seppd boat ride out of the harbour, £2 each, bargain,
This is a lovely scenic and breathtaking area, i have done most of it all now, got my panoramic views, filled my head with memories to explore , had peace, listened to nothing but seaguls, and the waves breaking,
I had a good time

Lovely pics Hilda, sounds like you had a good time
I used to go to Bridlington on holiday when I was little and we always enjoyed it
I love Whitby as well but haven't been there for a long time. Seeing your pics makes me think it's about time I went back |

Flamborough head was featured on "The way we were on Holiday" last week. (Cracking good series by the way). Movies from from the 1950's. It hasn't changed. I didn't see anyone I know though. _________________

| Great report and brilliant pics Hilda. The lighthouse one brought back memories of about 20 years ago, we walked around the outside edge of that little fence around the lighthouse, need I add, clinging on VERY tightly! Lovely view though! |

great report, hilda, and lovely pics
Thanks for taking the time to post them.
I'm so glad you had a good time despite the weather...which is just as bad this week
I bet your boys had fun in the rock pools etc...even the older one, who would probably feel silly making sandcastles now...
although I think you're never too old to make sandcastles
I've never been to the area you've shown (I don't think..seem to remember a day in Scarborough...a day???), so it is very interesting to see it _________________
