I didn't really realise until after I'd take some Maggie, but then when I did, I was just doing it quietly, trying not to draw attention to myself! Got away with it though, waited till the soldier turned the other way! _________________

Emma if you and Maggie get a chance, go to one of the viewpoints. The best on is the nearest, in Deryneia (not the one with the zoo). The guy (Antonis I think his name is) is lovely and you get a great view over into 'no mans land' through the telescopes and binoculars on the tower.
We went last week, it's a quaint place, hard to find, but interesting. He only charges CYŁ2 each and that gets you up the tower, a drink and the LOVELY homemade cake he does. We had it straight from the oven and it was gorgeous. _________________

....... Know where you mean Kezza....... we stopped there last time we went to Protaras.
He also has a book that you can write In, regarding what happened In Famagusta. We went upstairs where the viewing point Is pretty good, although Im glad we did have our Binoculars with us. _________________

| Emma, when we were last in Cyprus, a good few years ago, we hired a car for a few days, and one day drove all around the coast from Yeroskipou, just outside Paphos, past quite a few lookout posts with all the warnings, till we came to the last place before the border, Kato Pyrgos. We had a meal at the hotel there, then decided to drive on a bit further to the actual border. We ended up on a narrow tree lined lane, and then came upon a large metal gate across the road. We stopped, just to gawp really, then a young soldier, looked all of 16, came out from behind the hedge with a very large rifle in his hands and pointed it at us. Needless to say, we turned around smartish and left! |

When we were there last year we actually crossed the border and went up the lookout point that you can see Famagusta and there was a young soldier in some shack guarding something or maybe just keeping an eye on things and through the binoculars you could see he had a huge gun. But he waved etc and seemed quite friendly
Maggie is currently in Paphos and i think they were crossing the border and doing the Famagusta boat trip while they were there.
This whole border intrigues me, its sad but it is very interesting. _________________

| When we first went to Cyprus, we heard the Greek side of things, and sympathised with them. Then we went to Turkey and heard it from the Turkish side, and found ourselves sympathising with them as well. I think it`s a case of if you didn`t live there at the time, then you can`t really judge. |

Quite amazing.
I remember a girl I knew at school came over here with her family after having to leave their home in a hurry.
Quite sad that the situation has never been resolved |

Number i agree with you a whole lot there, it just fascinates me how a country can live so divided.
