Anyone read them
As they keep cropping up on the daily  quiz here and on other sites 'm thinking I may give them a go.
What are they like and which one comes first...(I'm assuming there is a series)

My favourite series of books EVER!!!!!  The first one is a bit confusing but it's very short (only about 150 pages).  Last year I ready all 7 one after the other.

Hi TB

This is the order .....

The Gunslinger (1982)
The Drawing of the Three (1987)
The Waste Lands (1991)
Wizard and Glass (1997)
Wolves of the Calla (2003)
Song of Susannah (2004)
The Dark Tower (2004)

I've read them all too but I have to say they're not my favourite work of his.

Also I remain unconvinced about the ending where Roland .... nah ... I'm not saying.

You make up your own mind.

EDIT > in case anyone is wondering I think Needful Things is his best work but I get a creepy feeling of deja vu now. I think I've said that already on this site somewhere.

Yes I agree Green Mile is also excellent but I think Needful Things just beats it to the post.

If you liked the book ... do NOT watch the 1993 film. It was absolutely ruined by the director, Fraser Clarke Heston (Charlton Heston's son).

Thought I'd revive this as the series has found a new fan.

My son - aged just 14 - was looking for something in our "book room" to read (we have a small room not used for anything so we put books in it).

He saw the Dark Tower series all lined up on a shelf, liked the title of the first volume, took it and off he went. I didn't think he'd have the interest or stamina but he's now almost finished Wastelands and is very enthusiastic.

He mentioned the Dark Tower series to his GCSE English teacher the other day. The reply was "What?!" Apparently the teacher was impressed and said he wouldn't encourage such a young mind to read Stephen King.

"And why not" I ask? My son asked the same thing but didn't get an answer that sounded very convincing to him. He thought the teacher just didn't like SK. His loss, I guess.
