I love this book by louis de bejournes(sp). The whole story of forbidden love and the horrors of war encapture me. It is a hard read at the start but once you start reading its super. The movie is entirely different to the novel and does it no justice.
Has anyone else read it???

This is another book I have tried to read, and started a few times!!!!! It was also one that I was going to stick on the worst book thread, but I couldn't spell it properly, and then thought as I hadn't read it I shouldn't!!! Sorry Guest _________________

I have read this book....it is brilliant!!!!
The war bits are rather gruesome, but the ending had me in tears .........
I always find it takes me a while to get into a new book though, so I kno what you mean..... _________________

| I didn't enjoy the film, thought it was slow and dull. |

Agree with your Guest, this was one of the hardest ever books to get into but once you did I could not but the thing down, real tearjerker, we visited Kefalonia the year before I read the book which made it more interested. Agree again - didn't like the film at all _________________

I loved Captain Corellis Mandolin the first time I read it, on a long lazy holiday in Turkey. I gave the book away once I'd read it, then bought it again when I got back to the UK. I read it every few months or so - just love it.
I also love Birds Without Wings - also by Louis de Bernieres. Similar style, different story.
I wouldn't watch either film (I believe Birds without Wings will be made into a film as well as Captain Corelli) because I'm always disappointed with films when I've already read the book. I prefer to let the authors descriptions direct me, rather than a moviemakers view.
Elaine
