Bog roll

Theres no other way of asking this question....but are there still large parts of the greek islands where you have to put the bog roll in a bin?

I think most of the Greek Islands are like this. (SWMBO won't go there this idea repulses her!) It's all to do with the bore of the piping being much smaller than here in the UK so the paper can qucikly block the outflow.

It's no problem at all! Take with you a roll (or 2

) of small plastic lunch bags and leave them in the loo! Put the dirty deeds inside and put in bin! (although...I must admit.....I used to use loo paper sparingly and flush it as per normal!

I have been to Greece loads of times and I have never found it a problem.
The bins are emptied regularly. You do soon get used to it and when you come home you automatically look round for the bin

Don't let this little worry put you off Greece.

We have some friends who've been to Greece and they told us about this little habit...but they said it was fine....

..doesn't appeal to me either, but then...when in Rome, do as the Romans do

or something like that

I have been to Greece and it has been a major problem. Bins not emptied, overflowing etc. disgusting.

Granted that was 18 years ago and I had thought it would have been sorted by now.

That's what we do too, must admit though have never found it a problem. Although as said previously have been to some places (bars etc) where it is pretty gross at the end of the night

I can't see the situation will ever change, given that even new properties are being built with the same small-bore piping.

Still, has to be better than the French "starting blocks" or the Parisian street pissoirs.

Do they still have those french "starting block" loos?

I remember them from the 1960s when I used to go camping with my parents.

I guess public campsite ones tended to be a bit grim anyway....but the worst part was the automatic flush which would suddenly kick in and soak your feet (and your trouser bottoms) unless you were in a position to scarper in time. It often used to flood out of the tray over the floor as well.

And in those days they had communal sinks like a long trough too, with several taps spaced out along the top on a pipe, so you'd be minding your business with your ablutions, and somebody else's spitted out toothpaste would come floating past
